ImpactfulArchitectural Design
UPCOMING EVENT
Course Name: Impactful Architectural Design
Eligibility: Grades 6-8
Location: Malvern Preparatory School (Riley Hall)
Description: This hands-on course introduces students to the fundamentals of Impactful Architectural Design through the lens of social responsibility and sustainability. Students will explore real-world examples of shelters and humanitarian projects, hear from experts in the field, and take on a design challenge to create their own emergency shelter within specific constraints. Guided through sketching, architectural drawing, and model building, students will learn how design can respond to human needs, cultural context, and environmental conditions.

MISSION STATEMENT
Impactful Architectural Design empowers students to see architecture as more than structures. It is a tool for empathy, sustainability, and social responsibility. Through hands-on design challenges, real-world case studies, and guidance from humanitarian experts, students learn to create designs that respond to human needs, cultural values, and environmental conditions. Our mission is to inspire the next generation to view architecture not simply as form but as a means to build a fairer and more sustainable world.

TAILORED TO YOUR REGION
Choose constraints such as location, climate, terrain,
and available materials to shape their designs.
Emergency shelters are adapted to regional needs,
whether that means flood-resistant structures,
heat-reflective roofs, or insulation for colder climates.
Designs consider local cultural values, traditions,
and community priorities to ensure relevance and respect.
The course emphasizes that impactful architecture is not
one-size-fits-all, but a practice that responds to the
unique challenges and opportunities of each place.
REAL TOOLS, REAL SKILLS
Practice sketching techniques that bring ideas from imagination to paper.
Learn the basics of architectural drawing by creating elevation, section, and plan views of your design.
Build a physical model of your shelter using simple materials like paper, tape, scissors, or even Legos.
Explore how professional architects use these same methods to test ideas, communicate designs, and solve real-world problems.
